High School: Sims was a two-time Second Team All-Suburban Lakes League selection at Lake, where she also earned All-District, as well as First Team and Honorable Mention All-Wood County honors. She was also a Second Team All-SLL selection in volleyball, and she was a member of the National Honor Society and United States Figure Skating Association.

Personal: Following her playing career at Owens, Sims married former Express baseball player Kyle Leppelmeier.
