Owens Career: Coleman, who was noted to have had a 37 inch vertical leap, is one of the best players in Owens men's basketball history.

1988-89 highlights:

He averaged 18.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game as a freshman in 1988-89, while shooting 55 percent from the field and 66 percent from the foul line. In the OJCAC championship game, he had 30 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead his team to an 84-71 win over Cuyahoga Community College. Following the tournament, he was named to the OJCAC All-Tournament team. In a Region XII quarterfinal win over Macomb, he had 30 points and 10 rebounds. The team's season came to an end with a 105-90 loss to Lansing in the Region XII semifinals. However, their OJCAC tournament title was the first in seven years for the program.

1989-90 highlights:
- As of Feb. 9, 1990, Coleman was averaging 24.2 points per game. In 53 career games up to that point, he averaged 20.9 points and 9.7 rebounds.

As a sophomore in 1989-90, Coleman was named First Team All-OJCAC, OJCAC Tournament MVP, OJCAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Region XII, Region XII Player of the Year and NJCAA First Team All-American. He scored 757 points during the season and finished with 595 career rebounds, which broke the career record at the time. During the season, he was named the Express Holiday Tournament MVP. In a 105-76 win over UM-Dearborn on Feb. 3, 1990, he had 30 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals in just 25 minutes of action.
