Jake Martin is this week's Student-Athlete Spotlight feature.
The sophomore midfielder on the Express men's soccer team has been
a key factor in the team's offense this year.
In the team's most recent game, a 4-3 double overtime win over
Jackson College on the road, Martin scored the game winning goal
with 4:29 left in the second overtime. He also scored another
goal earlier in the game.
This season, Martin has three goals and one assist for the
Express, who are 3-0 to start the season. It marks the second best
start in program history for the Express, who started 7-0 in
2005.
This past summer, Martin was a member of the Pacesetter Super 20
team in Sylvania, OH, where he competed with and against the top
players in the nation between the ages of 17 and 20. In the team's
first game, Martin scored the game winning goal against the
Columbus Crew Juniors, the defending national champion.
In 2011, Martin started 17 games for the Express and earned Second
Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) honors.
The team finished 14-6-1.
Martin prepped at St. John's Jesuit in Toledo, OH before coming to
Owens. He will be back on the field this Wednesday at Schoolcraft
College beginning at 4 p.m.
