TOLEDO, Ohio --- The No. 2 Owens Community College volleyball team (14-5) will compete in the Raider Challenge on Saturday, traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich. to compete against Lake Michigan College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and St. Clair County Community College in a trio of non-conference matches beginning at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

It will be the first action for the Red and White since Sept. 18 due to the postponement of their match against Edison State Community College until Oct. 11. Of the three opponents they'll face this weekend, Owens has only previously played St. Clair County this season, which resulted in a 3-2 win on Sept. 3.

Offensively, Maddie White (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS) leads Owens as the freshman outside hitter was named the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III offensive player of the week on Sept. 22. She racked up 46 kills, 39 digs, five blocks, four assists and four aces over four matches while leading the Express to a 3-1 week. She was also named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week for the second time this year.

Following this weekend, the Express will resume conference play with road tilts at Lakeland Community College on Wednesday and Hocking College on Saturday. Those matches will also signify the start of the second half of conference play as Owens currently sits at 5-1 in the OCCAC, which has the team in sole possession of second place - one game back of Terra State and one ahead of Edison State.

Owens, which has won eight of its past 10 matches, is among the national leaders in several team and individual categories.
