Toledo, OH---Three more sophomores - Erin Schatzle, Julia Haupricht and Alyssa Pelish - will continue their time as volleyball student-athletes after signing with four-year schools.
Schatzle, a 5'9" setter/outside hitter from Monroe HS in Monroe, MI, will play at Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. She was a two-time First Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and one-time First Team All-Region XII selection while totaling 909 assists, 375 digs and 223 kills as a sophomore. In her two-year career, Schatzle totaled 1,838 assists, 692 digs and 436 kills.
She set school records for sets played in a season (180, 2010) and career (346), holds the 7th and 8th highest single season assist marks (929 in 2010 and 909 in 2011), is third in career assists (1,838) and is 13th in career aces with 101.
The Fighting Scots finished 23-9 overall and 14-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) last year. Their season ended with a loss in the NCAA D-II Atlantic Regional Tournament.
Haupricht, a 6'0" outside hitter/middle blocker from Central Catholic HS in Toledo, OH, will play at Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI. She was an Honorable Mention All-OCCAC selection as a freshman in 2010. She finished her two-year career with the 15th highest single season kill total (389 in 2011) and the 10th highest career kill total (640). Haupricht added 341 digs, 46 aces and 41 assists in her career.
The Saints finished 15-16 overall last season. Their season ended with a loss in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament semifinals. They are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Pelish, a 5'3" defensive specialist from Central Catholic HS in Toledo, OH, will play at Lourdes University in Sylvania, OH. She was named the team's Most Improved Player in 2010 and was the team's Coaches Award recipient in 2011. She totaled 505 digs, 34 aces and 10 assists in her two years at Owens. She had 233 digs as a sophomore.
The Gray Wolves are entering their third year of play in the NAIA and WHAC. They finished 12-21 overall last season with a 1-8 record in the WHAC.
In their two-year careers, the aformentioned three players helped lead the Express volleyball team to an 87-14 overall record - including a 23-1 OCCAC record. The team won two OCCAC titles and captured one Region XII title and one Region XII runner-up finish. This past season, the Express had the highest winning percentage in program history (45-5, .900), which included tying the mark for most wins and setting a record for fewest losses in a season.
Along with three previous signees, a total of six players from last year's school record setting Express volleyball team have moved on to four-year schools. Brittany Egbert, Ellie Comes and Emily Crowell previously signed with UNOH, while Crowell is the only freshman in the group.
Five of the six - Egbert, Comes, Crowell, Pelish and Hauprict - will compete for their respective schools in the WHAC. Thus, they will see time against each other over the next two seasons.
