Toledo, OH---Owens Express volleyball players Brittany Egbert (Hopewell-Loudon/Fostoria, Ohio) and Ellie Comes (Southview/Sylvania, Ohio) have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Div. II All-America team.
Egbert, a sophomore middle blocker, was named an NJCAA Div. II Second Team All-American for the second consecutive season. She accumulated 496 kills, 39 assists, 39 aces, 250 digs and 140 blocks this past year. During her two year career, Egbert totaled 1016 kills, 53 assists, 120 aces, 531 digs and 301 blocks.
Egbert is a two-time First Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) selection, a two-time OCCAC Player of the Year, a two-time First Team All-Region XII team selection, a two-time All-Region XII Tournament team selection, and a one-time Region XII Tournament Most Valuable Player selection. She ranks second in program history with 1,016 career kills, has the highest kill/dig combination (1016/531) and kill/block combination (1016/301), holds the school records for hitting efficiency in both a season (.365) and career (.334) and is in the top ten in single season aces, career aces, and career blocks. Additionally, she owns the third and fourth highest single season kill totals. Egbert is only the second two-time All-American in women's volleyball (Stephanie Champine, 2006-07) at Owens, and she is the first two-time Second Team All-American.
Comes, a sophomore libero, was named to the NJCAA Div. II Honorable Mention All-American team. She became the program's career digs leader this past season while totaling 16 kills, 20 assists, 43 aces and 940 digs. She had 29 kills, 33 assists, 86 aces, and 1882 digs during her two-year career. Comes is a two-time First Team All-OCCAC selection, a two-time First Team All-Region XII selection, and a two-time All-Region XII Tournament selection. She holds the second and third highest single season totals in digs in addition to her career record. Comes is the third player in program history to earn NJCAA Div. II Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Over the past two years, Egbert and Comes have helped lead the Express to an 87-14 overall record - including a 23-1 OCCAC record. The team won two OCCAC titles and captured one Region XII title and one Region XII runner-up finish during their career. This past season, they had the highest winning percentage in program history (45-5, .900), which included tying the mark for most wins and setting a record for fewest losses in a season.
