Owens Basketball Teams Show Growth and Drive as Season Progresses

As the 2025–26 basketball season continues, the Owens Community College men's and women's teams find themselves on very different statistical paths, yet both are showing meaningful growth and momentum as postseason play approaches.

The Owens Express men's basketball team has battled adversity throughout the season, posting an overall record of 7–14 and a 2–7 conference mark. While the record may not reflect the team's full potential, head coach Joell Heidelburg believes the second half of the season tells a much different story.

"This season we've dealt with injuries throughout the season, but heading into the second half, we're fully healthy and playing our best basketball," Heidelburg said. "Our chemistry has really come together, and everyone is contributing in different ways."

The return to full health has allowed the Express to establish consistency and confidence on the floor. According to Heidelburg, the team's togetherness has become one of its greatest strengths, fueling optimism as the playoffs near.

"We're expecting to make a strong push in the playoffs and hopefully re-win our regional game," Heidelburg said. "This team's chemistry is high-level. They genuinely enjoy playing with one another, and I'm extremely proud of them. We believe we can make a deep run in the playoffs."

On the other side of the program, the Owens women's basketball team has put together an impressive season, emerging as one of the top teams in the country. The Express currently hold a 14–6 overall record, a 6–1 conference record, and boast a .700 winning percentage. Their strong conference play has them tied for first place, while nationally they are ranked #6 in the country.

Women's head coach, Stephen Perry, emphasized the team's steady improvement and postseason focus as key reasons for their success.

"The season is going well," Perry said. "We are currently ranked #6 in the country and tied for first place in the conference. We are getting better every game, and we want to make sure we play our best basketball now and at the end of the season to get us ready for the National Tournament in March down in Texas."

With consistent performances, strong chemistry, and a clear postseason mindset, the women's team has positioned itself as a serious national contender.

While the men's and women's teams may be experiencing different journeys this season, both programs share a common theme: growth, resilience, and strength. As the postseason approaches, Owens Community College basketball continues to build a strong foundation, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the year.
