Overview: After one season, Blanton has positioned herself to become one of the all-time leading scorers in Express history. She could move into the top five with another quality season after scoring 520 points, which is the third highest freshman total and eighth most in a single season in school history. She currently ranks 30th on the career scoring list...One of five returning sophomores, Blanton will start for the Express this year...She lists last season's upset of NJCAA D-I Indian River State College as her greatest personal sports thrill. In that game, Blanton iced it at the free throw line while accumulating 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Owens career: Blanton excelled on the court as a freshman and was the team's leading scorer at 15.8 per game. She helped the Express tie or break eight teams school records last season. She won several awards for her play on the court her freshman season including: NJCAA D-II Player of the Week (Jan. 6), Region XII First Team, OCCAC Newcomer of the Year, OCCAC First Team, OCCAC All-Academic, and team Co-MVP (Brittany Darling).
She scored 24 points in her first collegiate game at home against Mott Community College. In addition, Blanton scored 27 against Lake Michigan, 26 against St. Clair County and 21 against Edison. She had a season-high 11 assists vs Indiana Tech, while her season high in steals came against Cuyahoga on Jan. 13 with seven...She totaled 165 rebounds, 117 assists, 68 steals and eight blocks while starting 32 of 33 games.
Prior to Owens: Blanton didn't break out at Notre Dame until her senior season, when she was named All-Toledo City League First Team, All-Blade First Team, All-Northwest District First Team, team captain and team MVP. She was nominated for the McDonald's All-American award.
