Sara Fleming was an assistant coach for two years in the Owens softball program from 2011-13. She was responsible for coaching the pitchers and catchers.
During her two seasons, Owens recorded a 65-24 record. As of the spring of 2014, she is a softball coach at Springfield High School in Holland, Ohio.
The Columbus, MS native relocated to Toledo in June of 2011 and carries an impressive background. She attended New Hope High School, where she played basketball, as well as slow pitch and fast pitch softball. She was a member of the 1997 and 2000 state softball championship teams at New Hope.
After high school, Fleming attended East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, MS from 2001-03. She was a pitcher for the Lady Lions softball team and earned All-State honors. She was a Special Honors graduate with an associate's degree in psychology.
Following her time at East Mississippi CC, Fleming pitched for Millsaps College in Jackson, MS from 2004-05. She earned All-Conference honors, was named pitcher of the week in the conference twice, and was named an Academic All-American with the Lady Majors. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.
Following the end of her softball career, Fleming attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS and graduated with a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology.
She got back into softball as an assistant coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC from 2009-11. In 2009, the team was NJCAA Region 23 champions and appeared in the NJCAA Div. II National Tournament. In 2010, the team was NJCAA Region 23 Runner-Up and made an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. Then, in 2011, the team was MACJC South State Champions and State Runner-Up.
Sara is the daughter of Walter Fleming and Kathi Coleman. She is currently employed by Harbor Corporation in Toledo working with children that have behavioral disorders.
Fleming is currently working towards a Doctorate of Psychology in Sports and Performance Psychology at the University of the Rockies.
