Elmwood's George Becomes Fifth Member of 2013-14 Express Softball Freshmen Class

Toledo, OH---Brittany George, a First Team All-Ohio player from Elmwood High School, has become the newest member of the 2013-14 Express softball freshmen class after signing her letter of intent in a ceremony at Owens Community College on Thursday evening.

George, who has played shortstop and third base at Elmwood, hit .455 with 28 runs, 28 RBIs, three home runs, 45 hits and 15 doubles in 99 at bats as a junior. Following the season, she was named First Team All-Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC), First Team All-Wood County, First Team All-District and First Team All-Ohio. Additionally, she was the NBC's Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Her team finished 19-10 overall and 9-5 in the NBC.

As a sophomore, George hit .392 with 27 runs, 21 RBIs, 40 hits and eight doubles in 102 at bats. Following the season, she was named First Team All-Suburban Lakes League (SLL), First Team All-Wood County, First Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-Ohio. Additionally, she led her team to the D-II regional finals. Her team finished 24-5 overall and 11-0 in the SLL.

As a freshman, while playing third base, George hit .363 with 32 runs, 37 hits and seven doubles in 102 at bats. She was named First Team All-SLL and First Team All-Wood County following the year and led her team to the D-III regional finals.

During those three years, she was the team's leadoff hitter and led the team in runs scored. As a freshman, she led the team in stolen bases.

At Elmwood, she is coached by Matt Hoiles.

For her summer team, the Lady Lasers Silver, she was the team's catcher. She hit .339 with 26 runs, 39 hits and 12 doubles in 115 at bats after her freshman year and .348 with 44 runs, 56 hits and 19 doubles in 161 at bats after her sophomore year.

Her summer team was coached by Jeff Cavanaugh.

Aside from softball, George was her class secretary all four years, earned three varsity letters in softball and one varsity letter in basketball, where she was named Honorable Mention All-District. As a volleyball player, she was Second Team All-NBC and Honorable Mention All-District.

George is a native of Wayne, OH and will major in physical therapy at Owens. She was just named the Sentinel-Tribune's Athlete of the Week on April 21.

George joins Kendall Murphy (3B/C from Maumee HS/Maumee, OH), Lesley Ducat (RHP, Evergreen HS/Metamora, OH), Alexandra Veres (Catcher, Cardinal Stritch HS/Oregon, OH) and Chelsea Evans (RHP, Grass Lake HS/Jackson, MI) as one of five members of the 2013-14 Express softball freshmen class.
