Toledo, OH---Mareshah Scott, a centerfielder for the Express softball team, has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-II Player of the Week.
The freshman hit .609 (14-for-23) with a 13 runs scored, a triple, two walks and seven stolen bases. Additionally, she extended her hitting streak to 15 consecutive games and 20 of the last 21.
Overall this year, Scott is hitting .492 with 48 runs, 61 hits, one double, one triple, 10 RBIs, six walks and 32 steals. She has not been caught stealing thus far.
Scott becomes the second Express softball player to earn national player of the week honors this season after Ashlyn Michalak, a sophomore pitcher, earned NJCAA D-II Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 11.
The No. 12 Express (36-4 overall) will close out their regular season with back-to-back doubleheaders on the road this week. On Thursday, they will travel to Macomb Community College before traveling to Oakland Community College on Friday.
The Thursday doubleheader will pick up in the sixth inning of a suspended game earlier this year. The two teams will then play one seven inning game following the conclusion of the suspended game.
