Toledo, OH---Sophomore pitcher Ashlyn Michalak has been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-II Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 11.

Michalak was 4-0 with two saves in seven appearances for the Express during their trip to Myrtle Beach. In her first game, against NJCAA D-I Olney Central, Michalak struck out 19 batters in a 5-2 win. She struck out 10 in her next start against CCBC-Catonsville and 12 in her third start against Monroe College (NY).

She picked up saves in a 7-2 win over Olney Central and a 5-2 win over SUNYIT. Her season ERA thus far is 0.23.

Last season, Michalak was 11-1 with a 2.59 ERA and one save in 15 appearances. She struck out 77 batters in 59 innings. She was the complete game winner in the national semifinal win over Kankakee.

Michalak and Owens (8-1) will open their home season on March 19 against Defiance College's JV team beginning at 4 p.m. They will also play at home on March 23 at 3 p.m. against Macomb CC and March 24 at 1 p.m. against Oakland CC.
