Owens Golf Ranked 5th In National Poll

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's golf team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest Bushweek Golfweek National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

The team is scheduled to open its spring season April 4 in the Cincinnati State Invitational.

In the fall, Owens played in seven tournaments and won six of them. Their only non-win was the Purdue Calumet Fall Invitational, where they finished second.

The top three teams in the poll are South Mountain (Ariz.), Darton State (Ga.) and Mississippi Gulf Coast. Of all the northern schools, Owens is ranked the highest, just a few spots ahead of No. 8 Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College.

Notes

In the past two years, the Owens men's golf program has had its best two-year stretch in program history. In that span, the team has earned back-to-back top 10 finishes at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament (10th in 2013, 5th in 2014), including the best finish in program history (2014). In 2014, the team achieved their first No. 1 NJCAA Division II national poll ranking in program history.

Additionally, in the past two years, Williams has guided Owens to 29 tournament wins, back-to-back OCCAC championships, back-to-back OCCAC Ryder Cup tournament championships, back-to-back Sub-Region XII tournament championships and back-to-back Region XII tournament championships.
