Reeder Improving Offensively From Freshman Year

This week’s Student-Athlete Spotlight features sophomore catcher Olivia Reeder.

Reeder has improved her game offensively from last season, vastly improving her average and leading the team in RBIs.

As a freshman, during the 2012 season, she started 37 games as catcher while hitting .185 with 12 runs, two doubles, one triple, four RBIs, 10 walks and one stolen base.

Twenty-four games into her sophomore year, Reeder has started every game at catcher while hitting .351 with 17 runs, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 21 RBIs, six walks and six stolen bases.

Thus, she already has five more runs than last year, three times the amount of doubles, five times her RBI total and six times her stolen base total. She even hit her first career home run. Additionally, aside from her team-high RBI total, her batting average is seventh on the team, her double total is second and her runs are third.

Prior to playing at Owens, Reeder played softball, as well as soccer and basketball, for Genoa High School.

During her softball career at Genoa, Reeder was an Honorable Mention All-SLL selection as a freshman, sophomore and junior under head coach Tom Kontak and was named Second Team All-SLL and Second Team All-District her senior year under head coach Jeff Eisenbrandt.

Reeder is the daughter of Curt and Chris Reeder.  She has two siblings – Melissa and Max.

The No. 15 Express softball team is currently 15-9 overall and 3-1 in the OCCAC. Their next action is scheduled for this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Cuyahoga Community College. It will be an OCCAC doubleheader.
