Oregon, OH---Sara Turner-Smith, an outside hitter from Cardinal Stritch High School, signed a letter of intent last Monday to play volleyball for the Express in 2013-14.
As a senior, she led the Cardinals to their third volleyball district championship in school history. During the season, she led the team in aces (66), kills (279), blocks (14.5) and hitting percentage (.265). They finished 14-8 overall and 10-2 in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference (TAAC).
The Toledo, OH native has earned many awards and honors during her volleyball career: TAAC Player of the Year, Alan Miller Jewelers Co-Player of the Year, September's Buffalo Wild Wings Athlete of the Month, Blade Spotlight Athlete of the Week, team MVP and St. Sebastion Award.
She was named captain of her volleyball team her junior and senior years, and she was also honored with First Team All-District and First Team All-TAAC.
The Cardinal Stritch High School senior also has been named to the All-Academic team in the TAAC and District, and she was the December Student of the Month.
Turner-Smith joins Cierra Wirick, a setter/middle blocker from Benjamin Logan HS; Stephanie Kipp, an outside hitter/middle blocker from Ida (MI) HS; Aricka LaVoy, a libero/defensive specialist from Eastwood (OH) HS; Jessica Cooper, a setter from Brandywine (Niles, MI) HS; Bailey Dangler, a setter/outside hitter from Kalida (OH) HS; and Kayla Siefker, an outside hitter from Kalida (OH) HS as the 2013-14 Express volleyball freshmen class.
