Former Express Volleyball Players Have Great Time In Alumni Match

Toledo, OH---The SHAC was home to almost 30 former Express volleyball players, the current volleyball team, and many fans in attendance on Friday as the volleyball program hosted its annual alumni match.

Four teams, one consisting of the current Express volleyball team, rotated and played four matches against the other teams.

The second team consisted of Carrie Yoas (96-97), Abby Thompson (97-98), Mackenzie Lehman (97-98), Lori Maloch (98-99), Jill Finnen (98 and 00), Jaime Banners (99-00), Jennifer Hughes (99-00), Sandra Peer (02), Angie Tolland (02-03), Dani Rego (03-04), and Ashley Hill (03-04).

The third team consisted of Kristy Bailey (05-06), Elisha Milks (05-06), Lindsay Lehmann (05-06), Stephanie Champine (06-07), Chelsea Stover (07-08), Kristen Gyori (07-08), Mallory Imbery (07-08), Brittney Bradner (07-08), Brooke Thomas (08-09), Amanda Drew (08-09) and Brooke Hearn (08-09).

Champine is the only female in Owens sports history to have her jersey retired. She holds several records in the volleyball program including: kills for a season (595), kills in a career (1,129), hitting efficiency for a season (.360), career hitting efficiency (.330), and most kills in a match (35).

The fourth team consisted of Jessica Knueve (09-10), Amanda Schuster (09-10), Lauren Lind (09-10), Alyssa Wielfart (09-10), Alyssa LaVoy (09-10), Ashley Horak (10), Allison Seifker (10-11) and Julia Haupricht (10-11).

Seven attendees (Thompson, Maloch, Banners, Peer, Hill, Champine and Bradner) all earned NJCAA Athletic All-American honors during their time at Owens.

The 2009 and 2010 teams had the most participants with eight players, while the the 2008 team had seven players attending.

Last year's event had almost 20 players, so this year's event shows the continuing popularity of the alumni match.

The 2012 Express volleyball team will open its season Aug. 24-25 in Lansing, MI before playing their first home matches in the Owens Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in the SHAC.
